Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura is an APC member – PDP

Press statement from the PDP…The National Working Committee (NWC) ofthe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at itsmeeting today thoroughly considered anumber of very important issues pertainingto the state of affairs in our nation. The NWC brings to the attention ofPresident Muhammadu Buhari to somedisturbing development in the polity which,if not nipped in the bud, might significantlyaffect our democracy and stability as anation negatively, and that is the growingand unwarranted intrusion of some over-zealous security operatives on issuesbordering purely on politics. In particular, the NWC wishes to draw the attentionof the President to the continued intimidation, harassment as well as the hounding, arrest anddetention of Electoral Officers and members ofelection tribunals by operatives of the Department ofState Services (DSS) in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and otherPDP states. The NWC notes that this unfortunate developmenthas been the case since the appointment of the newDirector General of the DSS, Alhaji Lawal MusaDaura, whom we learnt was a critical intelligencestakeholder of the APC as a card-carrying member ofthat party during the campaigns. This is ungodly andunacceptable. We do hope that in his new job, the Director Generalof DSS is not mixing issues on the APC presidentialcandidate and the President of the Federal Republicof Nigeria, hence the need for Mr. President to reinhim in as the development is capable of eroding thecherished independence of the judiciary and theelectoral commission, a sine qua non for a viriledemocracy, which guarantees our unity and stabilityas a nation.Similarly, we urge Mr. President to take a critical lookat the issue of the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakarias Acting Chairman of INEC for which our party hasseverally raised some salient issues why she is notsuitable for that position. It is incontrovertible thatMrs. Zakari by virtue of her blood relationship withMr. President cannot preside over the affairs of anIndependent National Electoral Commission.Nigeria belongs to all of us irrespective of political, religious and ethnic affiliation and as a responsiblepolitical party we shall not fold our hands and watchwhile our nation drift along dangerous line.Furthermore, the NWC commends and congratulatesthe PDP caucuses in the Senate and the House ofRepresentatives on the smooth emergence of theMinority leadership in the National Assembly. Wenote that the process was without any interferenceswhatsoever from the leadership of our great party inkeeping with the dictates of the independence of thelegislature. Finally, the NWC deliberated on the state of the partyin Ekiti State and resolved that it only recognizes thestate Exco led by Chief Idowu Faleye. The NWChowever summons all critical stakeholders in theparty administration in Ekiti State to a meeting withthe national leadership on the issues in the statechapter.Signed:Prince Uche SecondusActing National Chairman ...Gbasibe.com
