1 injured, 1 arrested after shooting in Texas high school parking lot

One person is hospitalized with a gunshot wound and another is in custody after a shooting in the parking lot of a Texas high school before a basketball game, authorities said Friday.

The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. in the Palestine High School parking lot before the playoff game between high school teams from Teague and Malakoff.

A group of teens told the Palestine Press-Herald they heard shots ring out and were told to turn back after returning from a nearby fast food restaurant. They saw a man fleeing the parking lot who they assumed was the shooter.

Palestine police Capt. James Muniz says the wound was not thought to be life-threatening, despite the person being shot in the head, according to KXAS-TV.

Palestine school district spokeswoman Suzanne Eiben told the Palestine Press-Herald that the shooting involved two men from Teague.

The identities of those involved in the
Incident has not been released
