Uganda's opposition presidential candidate Kizza Besigye has been released by police.

He had been detained earlier for allegedly disobeying traffic rules in the capital, Kampala.

He had been held after police dispersed hundreds of his supporters on one of Kampala's main highways as they were accompanying him to a rally.
