A man has been taken to hospital after a huge fire broke out at a mosque in south west London believed to be the largest mosque in Europe. One eyewitness said the smoke was so thick that it was almost impossible to see the firefighters at work. More than 60 firefighters attended the scene with eight fire engines as well as specialist equipment including an aerial ladder. A website for the mosque describes itself as the largest mosque in western Europe. Eyewitness Mark Gale, 40, said: "It just solid smoke, it's so thick you can hardly see the firefighters through it. It is believed a large number of people have had to be evacuated and that the ground and first floors have been affected by the fire. London Road is closed north and southbound from Crown Road to Central Road due to the fire. Bus routes 80, 90 and 154 are being diverted.
