PDP governors unhappy with Akwa Ibom, Rivers ruling, emergency meeting planned

The Peoples Democratic Party governors will converge for an emergency meeting on Friday,October 30.

PDP governors are incensed over the two recent rulings of election tribunals in Akwa Ibom and Rivers state.

On Thursday, the Akwa Ibom Election Petitions Tribunal ordered a rerun of governorship election in 18 local government areas of the State, while on Saturday, the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, sacked Nyesom Wike as governor.

Both Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom and Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, belong to the PDP, hence, the vexation of the party’s governors.

As a result of these developments, the governors have agreed to meet and hold discussions on the impact the tribunal rulings will have on the opposition party.

Punch quoted a PDP governor, as saying: “These judgments are targeted at killing the PDP and we have to do something about it.”

“We want to discuss where we can come in to boost the morale of the affected governors and assure them that their cases are not beyond redemption.

“We still have the opportunity of appealing the two verdicts up to the Supreme Court. And thank God, the new law doesn’t empower the tribunals to declare anyone elected. So, our hope is rekindled on this.”

Meanwhile, the Administrator of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Osaro Onaiwu, confirmed that an emergency meeting will hold on Friday.

“Yes, it is true that the PDP governors have called an emergency meeting, which is holding for Friday. They will discuss the judgments and take a joint position on them. Naturally, they won’t be happy. But they are meeting to discuss the issue
